Is Janis Ian's song "Seventeen" considered soft rock?

I was wondering because my high school has a big concert every year where we do more show choir orientated things, instead of our usual concert choir music. This years theme is rock, it doesn't matter what kind of rock, just so long as it falls into that category and I really like the song "Seventeen" by Janis Ian and was told it would fit into the soft rock category, but I don't want to show up to auditions and audition with a song that is not even a part of the rock genre'. I would appreciate some help.
